What is Whistle-Blower?

A whistle-blower is an employee who reports illegal, unethical, or unsafe activities within their organisation to internal authorities or external regulatory bodies. Whistle-blower protections exist in many jurisdictions to shield employees from retaliation such as termination, demotion, or harassment as a result of their disclosures. In the United States, several federal laws provide whistle-blower protections, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Dodd-Frank Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Organisations should establish clear reporting channels and anti-retaliation policies to encourage employees to raise concerns without fear of reprisal.
