Work Ethic

What is Work Ethic?

Work ethic describes the personal values, attitudes, and beliefs that shape how an individual approaches their job. Employees with a strong work ethic tend to be reliable, self-motivated, disciplined, and committed to producing quality results, regardless of supervision.

Why Work Ethic Matters

In the workplace, work ethic influences productivity, team dynamics, and overall organisational culture. HR teams can foster a strong work ethic by hiring for cultural fit, setting clear performance expectations, recognising effort and achievement, and modelling accountability at all levels of leadership. While work ethic is partly shaped by upbringing and personal character, it can also be reinforced through a supportive and well-structured work environment.
