Code of Practice

What is Code of Practice?

A code of practice is a set of guidelines and standards that outline the recommended procedures for a specific area of work or professional activity. In HR, codes of practice may be issued by government bodies, industry regulators, or professional associations to provide practical guidance on topics such as disciplinary procedures, grievance handling, recruitment practices, and workplace health and safety. While not always legally binding, codes of practice are often referenced in employment tribunals and courts as benchmarks for reasonable employer behaviour.
