Bereavement

What is Bereavement?

Bereavement is the state of deep grief and mourning that follows the loss of someone close, such as a family member, partner, or friend. In the workplace, bereavement is recognized as a significant life event that can affect an employee’s emotional wellbeing, concentration, and productivity.

Why Bereavement Matters

Employers typically address bereavement by offering dedicated leave policies that give employees time away from work to process their loss and attend to personal matters. Supportive organizations may also provide access to employee assistance programs (EAPs), flexible return-to-work arrangements, and a compassionate management approach to help employees through this difficult period.
