Agent (Insurance)

What is Agent (Insurance)?

An insurance agent is a licensed professional who sells and services insurance policies on behalf of one or more insurance carriers. In the context of employee benefits, agents help employers select and administer group health, life, disability, and other insurance plans. Captive agents represent a single insurer, while independent agents work with multiple carriers to offer employers a broader range of options. Agents assist with plan design, enrolment, claims resolution, and regulatory compliance, serving as intermediaries between the employer and the insurance company.
