Rightsizing
What is Rightsizing?
Rightsizing is the process of adjusting an organisation’s workforce size and structure to match its strategic objectives and market conditions. Unlike simple downsizing, rightsizing may involve both reductions and additions to headcount depending on where the business needs to grow or contract.
Why Rightsizing Matters
The goal is to create an efficient operating model where the right number of people with the right skills are in the right roles. This can include eliminating redundant positions, consolidating departments, redeploying talent to high-priority areas, or hiring for new capabilities.
HR plays a central role in rightsizing by conducting workforce planning analyses, managing change communication, supporting affected employees through transitions, and ensuring that legal and ethical obligations are met throughout the process.
