What is Gamification?

Gamification is the application of game-design elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, and challenges to non-game contexts to increase engagement and motivation. In HR, gamification is used across recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee wellness. Examples include gamified assessments in hiring, interactive onboarding programmes, learning platforms with achievement tracking, and wellness challenges with rewards. When thoughtfully designed, gamification can increase participation, improve knowledge retention, and make routine processes more engaging. However, it should complement rather than replace meaningful feedback and development.
