Freedom of Association

What is Freedom of Association?

Freedom of association is the right of employees to form, join, or assist labour organisations and to bargain collectively through representatives of their choosing. In the United States, this right is protected under the National Labor Relations Act, which also protects the right of employees to refrain from such activities. Employers are prohibited from interfering with, restraining, or coercing employees in the exercise of these rights. Freedom of association is also recognised as a fundamental right under international labour standards set by the International Labour Organization.
