Employee Onboarding

What is Employee Onboarding?

Employee onboarding is the process of welcoming and integrating new employees into an organisation so they can become productive, engaged team members. While sometimes used interchangeably with orientation, onboarding is broader in scope and typically extends well beyond the first day or week, lasting from several weeks to several months.

Why Employee Onboarding Matters

A comprehensive onboarding programme includes completing administrative paperwork, providing role-specific training, introducing the company culture and values, and facilitating relationships with colleagues and managers. Effective onboarding reduces early turnover, accelerates time to productivity, and strengthens the new hire’s connection to the organisation. Companies that treat onboarding as an ongoing process rather than a one-time event tend to see higher employee satisfaction and longer tenure.
