Biweekly Pay

What is Biweekly Pay?

Biweekly pay is a common payroll frequency in which employees are paid once every two weeks, typically on the same day of the week. This schedule results in 26 pay periods per year, which means that in two months of the year employees will receive three paychecks instead of the usual two.

Why Biweekly Pay Matters

Many organizations prefer biweekly pay because it balances administrative efficiency with regular compensation for employees. It is especially common for salaried workers, though hourly employees can also be paid on a biweekly basis. HR and payroll teams should be aware that biweekly pay differs from semi-monthly pay, which occurs twice per month on fixed dates and produces 24 pay periods per year.
