Base Pay

What is Base Pay?

Base pay is the fixed amount of compensation an employee receives for performing their job, excluding bonuses, overtime, benefits, and other additional forms of remuneration. It is typically expressed as an annual salary or hourly rate. Base pay is determined by factors including the role’s market value, the employee’s experience and qualifications, internal pay equity, and the organisation’s compensation philosophy. It forms the foundation of a total compensation package and is the starting point for calculating other pay elements such as overtime, shift differentials, and retirement contributions.
